The countdown is on… with just three days to go until the Audi Waterford 1720 European Championships get underway at Waterford Harbour Sailing Club Dunmore East, here’s everything you need to know to make sure you don’t miss out on the action.
With up to 30 1720 sportsboats registered and some of the best sailors in the country attending, it’s going to be an exciting weekend for both participants and spectators.
The boats will be competing individually and in teams representing WHSC, RCYC, Baltimore Sailing Club and The Rest.
Sailors, please see the document below for all the key information you need for the weekend.
Nine races will be sailed in all over three days.
Thursday 23rd: Up to 4 races. Warning signal 12:30
Friday 24th: Up to 4 races. Warning signal 10:55
A small number of volunteers are still needed to help out on the water on Thursday, Friday and over the weekend. We’re ideally looking for experienced crews who can help on the committee boat, laying marks and rescue and ferrying sailors to and from their boats. Please contact Mark Kettle (+353 86 604 6828) or Julian Hughes (+353 86 813 4336) via WhatsApp if you’re available to crew.
Dining and entertainment
The clubhouse will be open from Wednesday morning through the weekend until late serving breakfast blaas, pizzas and toasties. On Thursday and Friday, hearty meals including curry and stroganoff with rice, spicy potatoes and naans will be served – no prebooking necessary.
On Saturday night, there will be a celebratory three course evening meal served in the club for members as well as competitors. Please keep an eye on the site and our social media for the full menu and booking details.
All are welcome, so please drop in over the weekend. We can’t think of a better way to finish off a brilliant season of sailing than having front row seats to experience the action this weekend.
