Keelboat Regatta and Cruiser Club Championships next weekend

A notice of race has been posted for the WHSC Keelboat Regatta and Cruiser Club Championships, which are taking place next weekend, July 31 to August 1, with up to 20 boats expected to participate. According to cruiser captain Julian Hughes, the coastal race, which is happening just before 1pm on Sunday, should be an exciting spectacle with 18+ yachts racing within a stone’s throw of the breakwater.

The first gun is midday on Saturday, with a plan to hold three races each day.

The dinghy Club Championships will take place the following weekend, August 7th and 8th, while the Optimist Club Championships are on the weekend of the 14th and 15th August.

Details of the Dale Morris and the Parent and Child Race to follow.

Congratulations to WHSC sailors who competed in Topper warmest Winter Series ever

Congratulations to the WHSC Topper fleet who travelled en masse to Cork for the Astra Construction ‘Winter’ Championship.

A great weekend in Crosshaven was had by all 76 participating boats during the two full days of competition on the Curlane Bank. The sailing was tricky at times with light winds, strong tides, but at least there were Mediterranean temperatures over the two days’ sailing – a first for a Winter Championship.

Topper captain Barry McConnell guided sailors, who all put in terrific performances. Congratulations to Isabelle Passberger who was second in the youth female and 14th overall; Sarah Clooney, who was third in the youth female section and 15th overall; Max Passberger was who was 3rd boy and 7th overall. Other sailors who travelled include Max Sweetman, Mena Sweetman, Devon O’Meara, Eimear Quinlan, Matthew Plant, Fionn Lynch, Julia McConnell, Robert Jephson and Eoin Byrne.
