Upcoming Zoom event: Pat Lawless on his solo, non-stop, unassisted 30,000 miles around the world bid

If the idea of nine months at sea in a small boat, taking part in the longest, loneliest sporting event in the world, sounds appealing (and even if it doesn’t) you won’t want to miss this Zoom event on Wednesday February 17th at 7.30pm, featuring the fearless Pat Lawless, who plans to be the first Irish person to complete a non-stop, unassisted solo circumnavigation of the world.
This is a solo, non-stop round the world sailing race, unassisted by any technology other than a compass, sextant, the stars and sun; sailing in the spirit of Brendan the Navigator and Edward Conor Marshall O’Brien.  No Irish person has achieved this to date.

“I have always dreamed of sailing in a race solo around the world and when the affordable Golden Globe Race turned up I just had to go for it. The boat I have chosen, a Saltram Saga 36 is capable of winning, I can but try my best now,” Pat says.

Killaloe Sailing Club is hosting ‘Golden Globe Race 2022: Sailing Solo Unassisted Around the World’, a Zoom event with Pat, who will share his plans to undertake the Golden Globe Race in 2022.
