Our young sailors on tour this year

Some of our home grown sailors we do not see around the club very often…

not because they are not sailing but because they are flying the flag  of WHSC sometimes in far corners of this world

Ciaran Finnegan this year is ranked as the 1st Youth Laser radial sailor. Sailing in the Youth Pathway Nationals he secured a 7th place and the UK Nationals in reached a 10th place and many more great results in other events. Time on the water and participation in events is what you need to do and that dedication can get you where Ciaran is now:)

Geoff and James; You will see more from them in the next few years

In the 420’s we had 2 Waterford sailors in 2 different boats. WHSC sailor Geoff Power in his first Season with James McCann has straight gone to the top echelons of the class. On the very pinnacle but also in his last season in the 420’s was our Dougie Elmes with Colin O’Sullivan.  Douglas Elmes Colin had their hands full keeping the 420 with Geoff at bay.

Douglas Elmes secured in the World Championships in San Remo Italy 24th place and in the Under 17 group Geoff Power produced a very classy 29th place.  When they came home the ding dong between these sailors did not stop and Dougie took the National title with Geoff in 3rd Place. Douglas is now moving on to the 49’rs and we wish him well in this new boat. We can surely look forward to some good sailing in the 420’s next season by young Mr Power when he and James build up there experience.

When you meet these lads at the harbour you have to take your hat off !
