Additional Powerboat Courses

Some members have been busy this spring gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to safely, and effectively, skipper an open powerboat. They have been awarded with the very useful ISA ‘ National Powerboat Certificate’ Due to ongoing demand course offerings have been extended into (warmer!) May and June.

ISA ‘Safety Boat’ Course – May 25th,26th.

A two-day course will be delivered at WHSC, Dunmore East in partnership with the Irish National Sailing School, Dun Laoghaire.

The course is designed for those seeking to improve their competency in the sport and focuses upon areas such as escorting racing fleets of dinghies, windsurfers and canoes; providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets and assisting in race management duties.

Syllabus

  • Preparation of boat for use
  • Basic boat handling
  • Race management (sailing boats)
  • Approaching and assisting sailing dinghies and other watercraft
  • Towing
  • Incident management and medical emergencies

  • 9:30am – 5pm, May 25th and 26th
  • WHSC Dunmore East
  • Pre-requisite: National Power Cert (often referred as Level 2 Powerboat) or equivalent and 20 hours driving experience

A course for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment. Find all details here
