May 23rd, 2013 By Charlie Boland
Congratulations to Ciaran Finnegan who came 2nd at the Irish Youth Nationals 4.7 fleet in Lough Derg last month. This secured him a place on the Worlds team going to Hungary in July.
This is a fantastic achievement for the WHSC sailor who will fly our flag on an international stage. He has done Waterford proud.
Ruairi Finnegan and Dougie Power entered the ultra-competitive Radial fleet both getting very respectable results.
Geoff Power also entered in the Topper fleet and did very well.
Waterford Victory in Kinsale Regatta
May 22nd, 2013 By admin
By Marcella Connolly
It was a victorious day for Waterford Sailing last weekend in Co. Cork, where the annual Spring Series Regatta was held at Kinsale. Three boats from the Dunmore East Yacht Club raced to claim top places in each of their respective classes.
Rob McConnell won the overall event at Kinsale for IRC Class 0 & 1 in Fool’s Gold. Shane Statham took first place for IRC Class 2 in Slack Alice while Dave Marchant took second place for IRC Class 3 in Flyover.
Speaking with Shane Statham at the prize giving ceremony, he said “We are absolutely thrilled that three boats from the Dunmore Yacht Club have proven themselves here today. It shows that the Dunmore Club is a force to be reckoned with and we hope that people from other clubs around Ireland will recognise this and come and join us this season for high quality competition.“
The first two weekends of the regatta had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions meaning that a total of four races were held during the event.
