RIB Trip – Saturday 8th July – Another Viking Invasion!

The weather forecast for Saturday is looking great so get your RIB on the water. We’re off to invade Waterford City and are taking the same route as the Vikings did many years ago! We’ll show you the way, point out some of the sights enroute and we even have a river chart for you to keep. It’s not a race so nobody will be left behind.

We have arranged for FREE secure mooring in the Waterford City Marina which is perfectly located at Customs House Parade. You have an hour to enjoy the City. Why not go for a coffee and a ‘low calorie’ treat to Galweys Café on Henrietta Street? Or perhaps a quick visit to the Fat Angel tapas bar? There are plenty of options available. Here’s the plan:

2pm: Assemble in WHSC Clubhouse for quick safety briefing.

2.30pm: RIBs depart.

4pm: Arrive at Waterford City Marina.

5pm: Depart for return journey to Dunmore East.

Come on – join us on Saturday afternoon. To ensure we have enough mooring space, please text or call Joe Friel (087) 418 9033 before Friday evening. Hopefully the Lions will win their final test match on Saturday morning and we will have a good excuse to have a modest celebration in Waterford City!

Try Sailing A Big Success – Thank you all.

Hi All,

The committee extends it gratitude to all who have made the Try Sailing Tuesday a big success.

Our Facebook and Website campaigners Nuala Treacy and Kevin Brennan who looked after the PR side of things and the priceless support from WLRFM’s Des Whelan, Oliver McCann and Mary O’Neill. Their advertising campaign and broadcast from the water helped us again with giving our club a wider appeal. THANK YOU ALL.

Over 4 Tuesdays we maxed our capacity and took to the water with over 180 guests in total.
It is up to all of us to turn these interested people into new members, crew for our cruisers, to build on our future. You will see new faces in the club house they could be your new friends to sail with.

Thanks, in no small part, to all of those who have assisted in organising, and I must say fantastic helpful instructors; this season’s instructors are a pleasure to work with !!. A special mention to our cruiser skippers who welcomed our introducees on board; John Cassidy, Finbar Cowman, Bill McConnell, Jamies Cleary, Conor O’Nolan, Charlie Boland, Dave Marchant, Robert Marchant, Tom Kennedy and Barry McConnell.

We are now evaluating how to build on this; extend it, make a smaller format or integrate it into racing evenings somehow. ? Any advise welcome and support for ideas.

Another great job by Rescue 117

James Young one of our latest new members was one of the rescuers of a small rib driver which was thrown of his boat in Tramore bay. It seemed like NO KILL CORD APPLIED😡…… The sailor was brought to shore by James but later airlifted to Waterford hospital for treatment. And the boat ? Probably still doing circles….

A poignant reminder to everyone using the waters to be vigilant, no matter what the conditions always wear a lifejacket and tell someone where you are going and what time you expect to return. If you see someone in difficulty in the water dial 112 or 999 and ask for Coast Guard. Well done to all involved in the Rescue.

Tenner Tuesdays off to a good start !

This blustery Tuesday saw the start of our Tenner Tuesdays; we opened our doors to those who wanted a taste of sailing.

Lucky for us, the strong northwesterly which blew all day calmed in the evening and we had very pleasant sailing conditions.

All ages turned up and 22 people set out to sea in cruisers , Wayfarers and Oppies. It was a pleasure seeing our new instructors at work with the very young ones on their first day of work. The smiles on the children said it all.

Some of our bigger guests went on the Wayfarers helmed by Kevin Brennan and Douglas Elmes. Bill McConnell and Dave Marchant tested some new sailors that could come in handy for crewing this season. Many were put through their paces and asked to perform all kind of jobs on the cruisers.

This Tenner Tuesday series has been supported by WLRFM with an advertising campaign which you have possibly heard on the air and with a Facebook campaign under the expert control of our own PR expert Nuala Brown Treacy.

Next week special guests Ollie Carrol and Mary O’Neill from the big Breakfast Bla will be Joining us to report on our Try Sailing / Tenner Tuesday !

We’re looking forward to seeing you there too !

Reminder – Try Sailing Tuesday This Evening

Reminder ‘Try Sailing Tuesday’ is this evening at 19:00. We’re looking forward to a pleasant evening out on the water.

Weather is looking good, North Westerly blowing but Dunmore East is nicely sheltered. Forecast is for winds to lighten slightly in the evening.

For new visitors we extend a warm welcome, we’re looking forward to meeting you. Make way to the WHSC clubhouse for registration. The bar will be open this evening, you are invited to bring spectators to enjoy the view from the comfort of the lounge and terrace.
