On Saturday 7th May WHSC were made very welcome at Wexford Harbour Sailing Club to continue the six week development squad initiative , to create some early season coaching sessions for our improving youth sailors
This weeks coach from WHSC was Dave Marsden who was accompanied by five boats consisting of Max Passberger and Melanie Jephson in Oppies , Jake Marsden and Fodhla Dunne in Toppers and Cormaic Doolan with his laser radial .
The fresh and gusty easterly breeze made it tricky but provided an excellent opportunity for our sailors to familarise themselves with flat water sailing , as opposed to our accompanying choppier conditions with winds in Dunmore East .
We were delighted to join in with Wexford’s coaches and rescue who provided us with starting practice , on and off water coaching , and great short courses . We look forward very much to returning the same welcome when we hope to see Wexford travel to WHSC on a Saturday in the next few weeks to be confirmed .
It is great to see our young sailors out early in the season , to also have the opportunity to travel to another venue and train with other clubs is fantastic and will surely stand to them when it comes to event and championship preparation / participation .
A big thank you to the parents who helped with travel and Andre Passberger who assisted Dave Marsden in a Rib provided by Wexford .
In a new cooperation with Wexford and Dungarvan, WHSC is offering 6 consecutive Saturdays of coaching in dinghy racing to those who have reached an adequate level of sailing Level 2 +. The coaching will be given by top sailors and is intended to get those ready and confident for larger national events. This is not a sailing course but a coaching series to learn the finer art of racing from some very experienced people.

But you have to admit they are as hardy as our native beasts. Well done Ian and Jim you are leading by example. First round is on me you have deserved it. Come on young generation, check your boat out and get the season going.
Waterford Harbour Sailing Club applied this year for funding again to the Sports Council,
The funding we received last year went to the development of the dressing rooms toilets and in the same time the entrance hall has been changed to make the clubhouse more welcoming. The building should be finished by Friday 3rd of March. We are looking forward to having our clubhouse back. In The New Round of funding we have applied for funding for more Wayfarers the highly successful boats from last year and for some Ribs. some of our ribs are coming near to their end of life and we could do with some additions. The application to the sports council are a laborious and precise process that requires a lot of time.
Our thanks to Derry O’Sullivan and Ronan Mulligan for taking on this task.
