Costumes are suggested and all children will receive medals in recognition of their participation.

Suggested participant adult ‘price’,  i.e. RNLI donation €5. 18 and under go free.

VHF COURSES – March 29th & 30th.

A course for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment.

The aim of the course, is to provide trainees understanding (practical and theoretical) of VHF communication at sea. The course includes training, preparation and examination for VHF radio license, required by the Irish Government.

All skippers and power-boat/rescue-boat skippers must be licensed radio-operators. Crews on yachts and rescue craft are encouraged to learn and become licensed operators also. A VHF license is highly recommended pre-requisite for ISA ‘Safety Boat’ candidates.

Successful attainment of a licence and associated personal identity radio codes from the Department will allow the holder to fully benefit from DSC emergency functions of his / her modern VHF radio or EPIRB in sending pre-defined digital distress messages.

Dates: Course requires 1 evening and 1 full day of training and is offered as follows:

Friday 29/03/2019 18:30 – 21:30

Saturday 30/03/2019 09:30 – 17:30 ( incl. exam)

Additional courses may be scheduled subject to demand.

Venue: WHSC Club house.

Equipment: VHF handsets are provided but if you have your own set please bring it along.

Cost: 220 EUR/per person (incl. tuition, oral and written examination, Irish Government VHF License and DSC codes)

Confirmation: if you are interested in the course, please contact Nicholas Walsh at or 086 256 9636. Note fees will be collected in advance of the course.

Video roll – Looking back at our September Optimist Sailors

Take a look at the smiles on our video roll of Optimist sailors, mostly under 10, enjoying freestyle sailing. Using club boats and their own boats with casual instruction from volunteer parents on Saturday mornings in September. What a great way to finish the season and introduce young ones to the fun of sailing.

Please Remove your boat from the Boat park

Please be advised that the boat park is no longer available to WHSC from October 1st.

All boats do have to be removed as soon as possible.

Take note also there will be another storm tonight and that it is highly recommended

To remove your boat to a safer place. 2 boats were already damage due to the last storm and we would

not like to see more boats in this situation

And you thought the Season was over ?

Like last year our season is extending well into September

3 groups of sailors went onto the water to enjoy all that WHSC has to offer

It started early with 17 young sailors in Optimists who are at the beginning of their career.

This group has been taken under the wings by Ben O’Sullivan as leader and a lot of detail had been covered

In his ‘first’ as looking after a large group.

The group was supported by 16 parents all helping with rescue, launching , registration and instruction. Well done Ben !

Then our development squad went on the water with Dave Marsden, they are the sailors with some more experience and Dave is teaching them to improve on the Water in sailing and racing skills.

At 15.00 all other sailors went on the water and again Dave look after the course and the results. A Beautiful day in Dunmore

and many ended up in our club house well run by Sean for some refreshment’s after their time on the water.

Thanks for all your Help !
