Membership portal live

Our new membership portal is now live. All members should have received an email with login credentials (check your spam folder).

The online membership portal gives access to;

  • Your personal profile
  • Your membership information (everyone in your membership)
  • Your boats & berth
  • A members directory (members over 16)
  • A crew finder
  • your invoices, renewals & payment information
**More features to come

Logging in

To login visit the WHSC home page and click on the members icon (see fig. on right), or use the main menu item More > Login.

Each person in your membership will have their own login (if an email was supplied)

If you don’t have an active membership you will be able to login but the actions you can perform will be limited.

If you have any login related problems please contact whsc.webmaster@gmail.com

Check Profile & Membership

The first thing to do is when you login is check all your information is correct and fix inaccuracies yourself. We also encourage you to upload a profile photo so other members can identify you.

Not all boats & berths have been added. If your boat does not exist please add it yourself.

Note that you have sharing preferences for some data on your personal profile (example phone number). Sharing is by default ‘private’, change this to ‘members’ if you want it listed in the members directory (which can be accessed by members only).

Please note that this is a new system and we are aware some data is not yet added or checked on all accounts. If something is inaccurate or you’re unable to update information which needs to be corrected please email the membership secretary (but be patient, there is a lot to process!)

GoCardless / Direct Debit

Please set up your Bank details by following the link to GoCardless.

IMPORTANT: This is NOT setting up a direct debit recurring payment on your Bank account. Setting up GoCardless is a pre-cursor to allowing the club take paperless payments (for membership, courses etc..) in the future. You still have to initiate any payment.

For your convenience you can choose to enable/disable automatic payments of future invoices from WHSC. Even with automated payments rest assured you will still have to initiate renewals and purchases manually online before an invoice is generated. Any debits will also receive email notification prior to any financial transactions.

We thank you for your support in moving the club to paperless payments. This is one of the main benefits for the club, current processing & reconciliation is a huge burden for volunteers.

VHF COURSES – March 29th & 30th.

A course for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment.

The aim of the course, is to provide trainees understanding (practical and theoretical) of VHF communication at sea. The course includes training, preparation and examination for VHF radio license, required by the Irish Government.

All skippers and power-boat/rescue-boat skippers must be licensed radio-operators. Crews on yachts and rescue craft are encouraged to learn and become licensed operators also. A VHF license is highly recommended pre-requisite for ISA ‘Safety Boat’ candidates.

Successful attainment of a licence and associated personal identity radio codes from the Department will allow the holder to fully benefit from DSC emergency functions of his / her modern VHF radio or EPIRB in sending pre-defined digital distress messages.

Dates: Course requires 1 evening and 1 full day of training and is offered as follows:

Friday 29/03/2019 18:30 – 21:30

Saturday 30/03/2019 09:30 – 17:30 ( incl. exam)

Additional courses may be scheduled subject to demand.

Venue: WHSC Club house.

Equipment: VHF handsets are provided but if you have your own set please bring it along.

Cost: 220 EUR/per person (incl. tuition, oral and written examination, Irish Government VHF License and DSC codes)

Confirmation: if you are interested in the course, please contact Nicholas Walsh at walshnich@gmail.com or 086 256 9636. Note fees will be collected in advance of the course.

There is an opportunity this year for young sailors age 17-25 years to form their own team on one of WHSC’s Cruisers.

Yacht “Seven Whistlers” will be going back in the water well prepared and is hoping to develop with “in house” coaches and external coaches a new generation of cruiser sailors.

You will be tasked with all the aspects of cruiser sailing on the boat in such a way that you will feel confident that you can sail and race a cruiser at the end of the season.

Aspects that will be coached:

  • Boat preparation
  • Start strategy
  • First to windward marker
  • Sail trim
  • Teamwork

At the end of the season we will be able to give the oldies a lesson in sailing .

What is required from you:

Availability to practice on Saturdays in May 14.00-17.00 hours

Availability for sailing frequently on Thursday – Sunday afternoons

Be a reliable part of the team

Membership for 2019 of Waterford Harbour Sailing club

Previous sailing experience would be great but not a pre-requisite.

To apply send e-mail with your experience and why you think you would be a good crew member for this season to
