Tall Ships Festival Cruiser Race
June 20th, 2011 By Ciaran McGrath
Calling all cruiser skippers!
WHSC has invited crews from the tall ships to join us for a yacht race on Saturday, July 2nd.
Each cruiser should be manned by it’s owner (or a designated skipper) and a competent crew member. The rest of your crew for the day will be made up of professional and volunteer sailors from the tall ships.
Racing will consist of two or three short races back to back. First gun is 14:00
Don’t worry about handicap certficates or spinnaker work, this is a fun race, and a great chance to get involved with the festival and extend a warm welcome from our club.
Please confirm your interest to Ciaran: call/text: 087 2909368, or email info@whsc.ie
Watergirls – June 18th
June 8th, 2011 By Ciaran McGrath
On Saturday June 18th the club will be playing host to a number of guests for the “Watergirls” event. An initiative by the Waterford Sports Partnership to encourage women and girls to get involved in sailing and other water-based sports.
WHSC has offered to take a group and give them a taste of sailing for a few hours. We are asking cruiser skippers who have some time to spare to take 3/4 guests on their boat and show them our wonderful sport, meet some new friends and take an opportunity to grow our membership.
If you are willing to participate in this please contact ciaran on 0872909368 or email info@whsc.ie
Each skipper will need the help of a competent crew so if you would like to lend a hand please get in touch.
We will also be looking for lifejackets for the guests so if you have any you are willing to lend it would be very much appreciated.

The crew of Orient Express receive the first place trophy in class 1
The August points league has come to an end in a close finish for the top spots. The winner was decided in the final races on Sunday the 29th. Frank O’Regan and crew on Orient Express took first place after an ongoing battle with Shane, Trudi, and crew on Slack Alice.

MJ & Roisin Walsh receive the first place trophy in the whitesails class
The whitesails fleet also saw some action although a disappointing day for Rene Wubben and his crew on Seven Whistler meant that MJ & Roisin Walsh had a cruise to the finish and first place.
Thanks go to McConnells Toyota, and Emerald Cargo for sponsoring the prizes. Full results can be seen here

Keneally Cup goes to Slack Alice
August 31st, 2010 By Ciaran McGrath

Shane & Trudi Receive the Keneally Cup
On Sunday August 29th the Keneally cup was contested over two races in tricky conditions. A strong breeze kept crews on their toes and even got the better of a few with more than one broach along the way. Skippers were kept busy too as the wind shifted direction quite a bit during the race.
In the tradition of the cup and in keeping with the wishes of its sponsor, there were two races back to back run under the ECHO handicap system.
But it was Shane Statham, Trudi O’Leary & the crew of Slack Alice who took the prize. Well done to all on board.
