CLODAGH LIDDY (nee MORRIS)
The death occurred in Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross of Clodagh Liddy on 12th June.
Clodagh was eldest daughter of Arthur Morris, former Commodore of WHSC (65/69) and Mary Morris.
The name Morris is synonymous with the Juniors at WHSC every August Bank Holiday Weekend. That is the weekend when one of our oldest Junior Trophy Events is held and the prize is the Dale Morris Trophy.
Dale was a brother of Clodagh Liddy and when he was tragically killed in his late teens in a motorbike accident his parents donated the trophy in his memory. Over the years it became a trophy which was won by club members who would go on to be National and International as well as World Champions. There was such contention for it, that the late Mary Morris agreed that another trophy could be named in her honour for the older Juniors. And the Mary Morris Trophy too, is also hotly contested each Junior Regatta.
The family connection with the club continued in recent years when Clodagh’s granddaughter, daughter of Rachel Liddy, took part in the Junior Course.
